Rock Band To Conclude Concert in the Park Series

The final performance in this year's Honey Brook Concerts in the Park series on Sunday, Sept. 7, will feature the band Local Honey. The outdoor concert, to be held in Honey Brook Borough Park, 71 Pequea Ave. (Route 10), will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public, but attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for donation to the Honey Brook Food Pantry (HBFP).

Local Honey is a group of longtime friends who have played in various bands through the years. Concert goers can expect to hear tunes from bands like the Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers Band and Pink Floyd, as well as original material. According to Jeanne Jenzano, vice president of Honey Brook Borough Council and chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee, this is the first time that the band has played in Honey Brook. She explained that she finds bands to perform in the concert series from local music venues.

"I spend a lot of time listening to live music around the county. If I hear a band that would be fun, I talk to them afterward," she said. "I don't like to book a band that I have not seen and heard in person. We want to make sure we are getting quality musicians. Plus I also have to consider the audience. I have to make sure the music fits the audience."

The concert series debuted in 2010 with one concert by a trio of local musicians, but it grew to include four concerts held once a month during the summer. Jenzano said that the concerts attract between 75 and 100 people, some of whom do not live in the borough. "It brings people from outside the area to see Honey Brook. They get here and tell me it's a cool town and a nice park," she stated. "It puts a positive spin on Honey Brook."

While food is not sold at the venue, people may bring their own picnic dinners or visit various eateries located around the park. Picnic tables are set up inside one of the park's pavilions.

The park also has a playground for children. "People can watch their kids on the playground and listen to the music or they can be on the playground with the kids and still hear the music," Jenzano noted.

Following the concert, Jenzano delivers all of the food donations directly to the pantry. "There is a bin set up and at the pavilion, and I announce (where the food goes) when I introduce the band," said Jenzano, who is also an HBFP board member.

For more information about the concert, visit www.honeybrookborough.net, choose "Events" and then select "Concerts in the Park." Those with questions may email jjenzano@hbboro.net. It is recommended that attendees bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating.

In the event of inclement weather, a decision to cancel the concert will be made by 1 p.m. on the day of the show. A cancellation message will be posted on the website.
