Church Presents Donation to Food Pantry

The Rev. Dr. Stephen Fritz, pastor of Wayside Presbyterian Church, recently presented a check for $7,000 to the Hempfield Area Food Pantry, representing the proceeds from Wayside's 13th annual Waystock event. Waystock is a music and family fun festival that includes local bands playing upbeat, clean music and family activities on the lawn of the property at 600 Stony Battery Road in Landisville. This year's event took place on June 14.

Fritz credited the congregation, musicians and corporate sponsors, including Richards Energy and Susquehanna Micro Inc., as well as Citgo Mountville, Hershey's Ice Cream, High Transit, Humankind Water, Martin's Snacks, McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC, Pepperidge Farm, S'more Space Storage, Utilimaster and the Wawa Foundation.

In addition to the monetary donation, Jean Cleary, Wayside's mission lead, networked with local businesses on Stony Battery Road and collected 600 pounds of food as part of Wayside's "Business on Battery" Waystock support. Employees of local businesses contributed nonperishable canned goods for several weeks prior to the event. Participating businesses included The Hempfield recCenter, Saadia Distribution Center, S'more Space Storage, Bearon Manufacturing and The Clinic Muay Thai Gym.

The next free community outreach event hosted by Wayside will be a Trunk or Treat on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wayside also holds quarterly open house days for anyone seeking a church home, but visitors are welcome any Sunday morning.

Beginning on Sunday, Sept. 14, Wayside will offer 9 a.m. traditional worship followed by fellowship and a 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship with Grace Notes, Wayside's house band.
