Costumes, Floats and Fun in Bainbridge

Come out in costume for some spooky fun when Bainbridge hosts its annual Halloween parade. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25. Registration will run from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m., and the parade will step off at 5:30 p.m. Registration will take place at Bainbridge Elementary School, 416 N. Second St.

The parade will travel south on Second Street, progress to Overlook Drive and end at the Bainbridge Fire Company.

Prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories, including scariest, best dressed and most original, with divisions for individuals, couples and groups of three or more. Awards will also be presented for youth groups, commercial displays and best pet.

"We also have the traveling trophy for the float category," said Gina Mariani, who is helping to organize the parade. "They get judged on audio/visual, originality and theme when they are in the parade. At the firehouse as they are marching, they have 30 seconds to do a small skit or song for their float."

Prizes reflect the fun and camaraderie of the event, she said.

"We give out the floating trophy for first place, toilet trophy for second, donkey butt for third," she said. "We also give cash prizes to all winners first through third in all categories."

Following the parade, the celebration will continue at the Bainbridge Fire Company, 34 S. Second St.

"There will be food trucks set up from brisket, ribs, pork, Chuckwagon Grill burgers, chicken, fries, Rita's Ice, Funcky Candy X-Press and Notorious P.I.G.," Mariani noted. "We also have a band, The Kracker Beez. They play a variety of music."

The parade is organized by the Conoy Parks and Recreation Department. It will be held rain or shine, including in light drizzle, unless there is a storm.

Mariani hopes anyone who is interested in participating in the parade or just watching along the route will come out for some holiday festivities.

"We have a great community of people, and we welcome all kinds of fun and competition in our parade," she said. "It's just a great hometown fun night."
