Quarryville Library Posts Activities

The Quarryville Library Center, 357 Buck Road, Quarryville, has planned activities for patrons of all ages in October. To register, visit http://www.quarryvillelibrary.org and click on "Events."

An event to belatedly celebrate Johnny Appleseed's birthday will be offered for patrons of all ages on Thursday, Oct. 9, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. A parks naturalist will discuss the history of the apple tree and make fresh cider with an old-fashioned cider press. Participants will help make and then drink the cider. Those wishing to taste the cider will need to sign a liability waiver.

The crew from the Quarryville Fire Department will present a special firefighter story time during Fire Prevention Week on Friday, Oct. 10, at 10:30 a.m. There will be stories, songs, crafts and a fire truck on display. The program is for children up to age 6 with parents or caregivers. The theme of Fire Prevention Week is "Charge Into Fire Safety, Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home."

Families are invited to a free movie on Thursday, Oct. 2, beginning at 6 p.m. "Monsters University" will be featured. Snacks will be provided.

Children age 5 and over are invited to the library's monthly Lego Block Party on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The library will provide suggested challenges or attendees may use their imagination and creativity to build their own design.

The Friends of the Quarryville Library Center will host a chicken barbecue, yard sale and book sale on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The chicken will be prepared by members of the Wakefield Lions Club.

Robert Frick, local historian and retired superintendent at Lampeter-Strasburg, will present the next installment of the lecture series "Together, They Founded the United States" on Friday, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m. This six-lecture series will focus on six men who had a significant influence on the founding of the nation.

Yoga will be offered on Tuesdays, Oct. 7 and 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. Attendees should bring a yoga mat or bath towel, a hand towel, and a water bottle. Adults and teens of all skill levels are welcome.

The library accepts nonperishable food donations and other items for Solanco Neighborhood Ministries. Needed items include manual can openers, laundry detergent pods, feminine hygiene products, bar soap, baby wipes, and diapers. Donations may also be dropped off at Solanco Neighborhood Ministries, 14 S. Church St., Quarryville, on Mondays to Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon.
