Volunteers Sought for Emergency Shelter

Elizabethtown Community Housing and Outreach Services (ECHOS) will reopen its emergency shelter from early December to early April to provide a safe and warm place for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

ECHOS is seeking volunteers to join the shelter team and will hold two volunteer training sessions. A session for new volunteers will take place on Monday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. at ECHOS, 105 E. Washington St., Elizabethtown. A session for returning volunteers will take place on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elizabethtown Mennonite Church, 300 S. Spruce St., Elizabethtown. Attendance at one of these sessions is required for all volunteers.

Volunteer opportunities include checking guests into the shelter, serving meals, providing hygiene items or bedding, and serving as an overnight volunteer alongside ECHOS staff. Individuals, groups, and churches may also sign up to prepare and deliver hot dinners or assist with daytime cleaning.
