For anyone who enjoys theater, history, music, or good food (or all of the above), there is an unforgettable event coming up that you and your family will be sure to love!

The upper school theater department of Veritas Academy, a classical Christian school located in Leola, is pleased to present a Madrigal Feast on November 21 and 22, held at the historic Springside Barn at 1294 Weaverland Road in East Earl. Tickets must be purchased at veritasacademy.info/madrigal by Friday, November 14.

This event welcomes audiences to step back in time and become guests at a royal banquet set in a 16th century European castle manor. Our cast of students will interact with the audience as nobility, royalty, and peasantry, with lively songs, a few games, and a hilarious play led by our court Jester and his troupe of actors.

The “masque” (or, the play-within-the-play presented for the audience) features the story of Princess Grace of Knockerdown, and her parents’ attempts to get their beautiful but hopelessly clumsy daughter (ie, decidedly NOT “Grace-ful”) married off and out of the castle…while the castle is still standing! Can they find a suitor to woo her without getting too “woo-nded” himself? The audience will be in stitches over the royal family’s predicament!

Part of the experience is a hearty three-course meal, including beef barley soup, roasted meats and vegetables (hearkening to an old-time royal feast, of course!), wassail, and choice of desserts, all served by a team of costumed characters and volunteers! There is also a Saturday “light lunch” matinee performance for those looking for a more budget-friendly or earlier option, great for families with younger children.
