Solanco Class of 2025 Members Are Ready to Chase Their Goals

No matter what they choose to do after commencement, Solanco High School principal Scott Long is confident members of the Class of 2025 will give it their all.

"There are a lot of qualities that stand out," Long said. "They are kind kids. They're fun to be around. They're energetic. Without a doubt, the biggest thing that stood out to me is their ability that when they have a goal, they relentlessly pursue that goal. There are so many things this group has accomplished, from things like athletics to academics, to things at CTC (Career and Technology Center), to going right to the workforce. I think about the fact that they all pursued their goals."

Solanco's graduation for approximately 239 seniors is scheduled for Friday, June 6, at 7 p.m. in the football stadium, 585 Solanco Road, Quarryville. Long will closely monitor the weather forecast. "We make holding an outdoor event our top priority," said Long. "In previous years, we have moved the event back one day, up one day, and delayed by just an hour or so. I have not locked into a rain date concept, simply because we will move it either way to avoid having to be indoors." The ceremony will be livestreamed on the school district's YouTube page.

Brock Snider, a 2010 Solanco graduate, will be the guest speaker. A multi-sport athlete and class president, Snider studied marketing at Bloomsburg University and co-founded Oola Bowls.

Dominic Arbogast, a class representative who will major in health science and compete for the Ursinus College track and field team, said he enjoyed attending football games and was happy to be chosen prom king.

Class representative Piper Haupt plans to take a gap year to work before deciding if she wants to attend college. Piper said she enjoyed the Senior Splashin' competition where teams of two try to squirt opposing teams with a water gun while avoiding the same fate from other tandems. "It was kind of a fun game," said Piper. "I'm sure everyone is glad it's over, but it's a fun memory to look back on."

Garrett Grove, a representative who is planning to attend West Virginia University with a double major in accounting and finance, touted the seniors' success in class competitions. The Class of 2025 swept Color Wars and powder puff games as juniors and seniors.

Class treasurer Abbie Gorgo will move to Germany after graduation and spend between six months to a year as part of a cultural studies exchange. "I made a lot of tight relationships (in high school) along the way," Abbie said. "I didn't really know that many people when I first came to high school, and I became friends with a lot of people that I guarantee will last for a long, long time."

Logan DellaVecchia, the class president, said the seniors learned from some rookie mistakes, including an unattractive Color Wars mural and a poorly planned dance. "It was just a really bad dance that we put together in a short amount of time," said Logan, who will major in marketing at Bloomsburg University.

Class representative Emileigh Kreider, who will study elementary education at the University of Wyoming, gave a shoutout to class advisers Alyssa Landis and Sabrina Witmer. "I couldn't have asked for better advisers," Emileigh said. "We came into this together as they were new to the school when we were freshmen, and we became a little family."

Class secretary Sara DeFrancesco, who will study elementary education and play softball at York College, noted how the seniors continue to find ways to bond. On the evening of May 20, approximately 50 members of the class camped in tents in the school parking lot. "We were up until 3 a.m. talking and vibing," Sara said. "We really mesh well as a group."

Austin Jarabak, a class representative who will study supply chain management at Bloomsburg University, summed up his high school experience.

"I used to say it a lot as a joke, but it's become more serious," he said. "It's not about what we've done or what has happened; it's about the friends we've made along the way."
