Library Posts November Activities

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of special events and programming. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

The W Donuts truck will be at the library on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Programs for children and families will include Reading with Sasha, a KPets therapy dog, Thursdays, from 5 to 7 p.m. (15-minute time slots are available); Wiggle and Giggle Story Time, Mondays, Nov. 10 and 24, at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10 a.m. for children age 6 months through 2 years; Parachute Play with Miss Alyssa, Monday, Nov. 17, at 10:30 a.m.; Teas and Teddies, a tea party where participants can bring their stuffed animals, Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.; and Family Trivia Night, Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. The topic will be Marvel movies.

A Lego Challenge will be featured on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 6 p.m. Miss Alyssa will give each participating family a shoebox full of Legos. The challenge will be to use what is given to create based on the night's theme.

Teen Chill & Draw with artist Hanna Haser will meet on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. Attendees will enjoy snacks, chatting and drawing.

Activities for adults will include Closely Knit, a program for knitters and crocheters, on Nov. 10 and 24 at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; Adult Book Bingo, Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m.; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club, for people of all skill levels, on Nov. 15 from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; Make-It Monday - Paper Quilling - on Nov. 24 at 6 p.m.; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at 6:30 p.m., with the topic, "Alice I Have Been" by Melanie Benjamin.

Adults are invited to attend a live podcasting launch of "Ask the Expert" with Kelly Johnson on Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will get an inside look at how a podcast is created and will learn practical tips and resources to help to begin a podcast. The program is made possible by the Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce.

Easy Writer Club, for writers of all levels, will meet on Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m. No registration is required.

The library will have Family Story Time, featuring stories, songs and a craft, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, Nov. 5, 12, 19, and 26, and Thursdays, Nov. 6, 13, and 20, as well as on Nov. 8 at 10 a.m.

Kids Craft Night with Miss Katelyn will be held for children age 3 and over on Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. This month's craft will be to sculpt a tiny clay cow in celebration of the library's participation in the "Adopt A Cow" program. All sculptures will be put on display and then will be returned to their makers.

In celebration of World Kindness Day on Nov. 13, families are invited to come celebrate by making notes or drawings with encouraging or cheerful designs to brighten someone's day. This is a drop-in program, so families can come anytime between 6 to 7 p.m., and all supplies needed will be provided. Afterwards, the library will gather all the notes and designs and place them in the library lobby and encourage anyone who needs a pick-me-up to grab a note that can brighten their day.

A real-life game of Clue will be offered at the library on Friday, Nov. 14, from 5 to 6 p.m. Like the board game, participants will work to discover "whodunit." Clue cards will be hidden in different areas around the library. It is up to the teams to find the answer to the puzzle. Participants will be offered free books as prizes.

A Special Guest Story Time, led by a member of the Janus School team, will take place on Nov. 18 at 10:30 a.m. Story time will include a themed story, songs and a craft.

As part of the Family Movie Matinee, "Lilo & Stitch!" will be screened on Nov. 25 at 10 a.m.

Those who would like to honor a veteran may stop in the library to fill out a card, and that person's name will be displayed on a special Honor a Veteran display. On Nov. 11, Veterans Day, the library will scroll a PowerPoint with all submitted names in the library from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. For those who cannot make it into the library but want to honor a veteran, visit http://www.mslibrary.org/honor-a-veteran.

On Nov. 12 at 6 p.m., adults are invited to hear the history of the pilgrims with re-enactor James Buckner, who is a descendant of John Howland, a passenger on the Mayflower, which arrived in this country in 1620. Howland is a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants as well as the Society of Mayflower Descendants in Pennsylvania. He was born in New England and can trace his lineage back through his mother's side to his ancestors that arrived in 1620.

Community members are welcome to attend the library's board meeting on Nov. 19 at 6:30 p.m.

As part of the Fall Into Reading Challenge, children will be able to earn prizes. Participants will get a free book and free ticket entry for each challenge they complete. The challenge will end on Nov. 22.
