November Seniors of the Month Announced

Syrus Lubeskie and Azul Gomez-Ruiz have been selected as November's Seniors of the Month at Manheim Central High School (MCHS).

The Manheim Women's Club sponsors the Girls of the Month, who are recognized at the club's meeting with a speaker, refreshments and a recognition gift. The Rotary Club of Manheim sponsors the Boys of the Month. Both students are invited to attend a luncheon at Pleasant View Town Square North held in the Hearth and Harrow Dining room during the month they are chosen. Seniors of the Month are selected by the professional staff of the high school based on academic achievement, character and involvement within the school and community.

Syrus, 18, is the son of Liz and Geoffrey Lubeskie of Manheim. Syrus is a member of the Interact Club, a division of the Rotary Club, which provides him with many opportunities to support local schools and communities by helping with various events. Syrus is one of the captains of the MCHS soccer team, having played for the high school for four years. Syrus has also competed as a member of the track and field team for four years in hurdles and high jump events. Other school activities include orchestra, Attollo leadership mentor, Spanish Club, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Outside of school, Syrus is a member of St. James Catholic Church. For nine years, Syrus has been an active member of the orchestra playing the cello. He plans to attend a four-year university after graduation.

Azul, 17, is the daughter of Yolada Ruiz and Jose Gomez of Manheim. Within school, Azul is active in Student Council and serves as the social media manager. Other leadership roles include serving as the orchestra manager and the section leader of the school's Violin 2s.

During her freshman and sophomore years, Azul held a leadership role working with the Manheim Brethren in Christ (MBIC) youth group and currently helps them run the milkshake stand at the Manheim Farm Show.

Plans for after graduation are not finalized, but Azul has an interest in cosmetology and social media management/marketing. Her dream is to create a nonprofit organization where survivors of human trafficking are offered beauty services.
