Scouts Collect Food for Families in Need

In early November, Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 267, Cub Scout Pack 37, and Troop 64 joined forces for the annual Scouting for Food campaign, an effort that unites local youths in service to their neighbors. This year's drive collected 6,500 pounds of nonperishable food from the Hempfield community, all of which was donated to the food pantry at Zion Lutheran Church in Landisville.

Scouting for Food is a nationwide initiative sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, encouraging Scouts to give back by fighting hunger within their own communities. The Hempfield Scouts spent the first weekend of November distributing collection bags and returned a week later to gather donations left on doorsteps by generous residents.

Beyond the food donations, this project reflects the heart of Scouting - being helpful, kind, courteous, and reverent. Each can and box collected represents a shared commitment to the Scout Oath's call to "help other people at all times."

"Every year, our community's generosity amazes us," said one of the troop leaders. "The Scouts learn that service is more than just volunteering - it's about connecting with others and making a real difference close to home."

The donations collected through the dedication of the local Scouts, their families, and supportive neighbors will provide assistance to hundreds of families in need heading into the holiday season.
