A Christmas luminaria walk will be held in Roland Park, 221 N. 11th St., Akron, on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Two paths will be available - a lantern-lit path through the evergreens and a level path from the parking lot for easier walking. People will also have the option to walk various distances, such as a quarter mile or a half mile. About 800 electric candle luminaria lanterns will light the paths.

The event will also include carols, musical groups, storytelling, homemade cookies, and hot cocoa. Hilltop Harmony will headline the event. The musical group includes Dave Lefever, Dennis Maust, Becca Rupley, and Diane Gehman. Other musical groups will perform along the trails. Rebecca Thatcher Murcia will be the master of ceremonies.

A photo booth will be set up where volunteers will take visitors' photos. Props will be available for the public to use.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a donation for the Ephrata Social Services Food Bank. Suggested items include canned tuna, canned ravioli, jam or jelly, and peanut butter.

Around 600 people attended the event last year, and this year organizers are planning for 800.

Many churches and business have volunteered or donated to support the event. Compleat Restorations is the major event sponsor, and other community sponsors include Akron Community Church, Akron Mennonite Church, Akron Nutrition Center, Bible Baptist Church, Cultivate Community Church, Ephrata National Bank (Akron Branch), Good to U Auto Sales, Jenny Lyns at Akron School House, Legacy Handcrafts, Mennonite Central Committee, Ranck's Plumbing, Reiff's Farm Market, Sharp Shopper Grocery Outlet, and Zion Lutheran Church.

People are asked to park in the lot by Pavilion 1, near the playground. Volunteers will direct attendees to the walking routes. Attendees are encouraged to bring flashlights.
