Presentation on History of Local Banking Set

The New Holland Area Historical Society will host a presentation on the history of community banking in ELANCO on Thursdays, Jan. 22 and 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland.

The banks covered in the presentation will be New Holland National Bank, Blue Ball National Bank, New Holland Farmers National Bank, Ephrata National Bank, and Bank of Bird-in-Hand. The presentation on Jan. 22 will focus on New Holland bank history, and the Jan. 29 presentation will cover Ephrata National Bank and Bank of Bird-in-Hand.

Attendees may hear from current and past bank employees Aaron Groff, Bill O'Brien, Lori Maley, and Wilbur Horning, as well as local historian Brian Frankhouser. Topics will include bank name and location changes, the Gelt Bus initiative, technology updates, interesting people who worked at the banks throughout the years, and bank robberies.

The event is free to attend, and no reservations are required.
