Grant Supports Planting of Trees at Library

The Honey Brook Community Library (HBCL) has announced that it has been selected to receive a Healing the Planet grant, funded by the Giant Company in partnership with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. This grant supported the purchase and planting of native trees on the library grounds, enhancing community green space and promoting environmental stewardship.

The Healing the Planet grant program focuses on planting native trees to improve the health and sustainability of local ecosystems. With this funding, the HBCL was able to plant a variety of native tree species to improve natural habitat, support pollinators, increase shade, and contribute to the long-term environmental health of the Honey Brook community.

The planting of a mix of maple, oak, and redbud trees took place in October 2024. According to Karen Gorgonzola, HBCL board member, the library reached out to Sauder's Nursery in East Earl for the purchase of the trees and Ressler Property Maintenance of Denver for the delivery and planting.

Volunteers have been involved with watering and maintenance of the trees since planting.
