Downtown Mount Joy will turn into a throwback beer lover's paradise on Saturday, April 25, when the Fresh Brews of Mount Joy returns to Main Street with dozens of breweries from across the country, two stages of music and a full-blown '90s theme that invites visitors to sip, stroll and celebrate in their best retro style - all while supporting a good cause.

VIP entrance to the beerfest will begin at 1 p.m., with general admission starting at 2 p.m. Activities will take place on Main Street, between the intersections of Market Street and Marietta Avenue, until 5 p.m.

"There will be 50-plus breweries attending the event from all over the country," shared Allory Melhorn, president of Voyage Mount Joy, the organization hosting the event. "There will be two stages of entertainment, one featuring live music and the other featuring a DJ. This is a '90s-themed event, so we encourage patrons to dress in their best outfits from the era." Food trucks and vendors will also be on-site for the festival.

Last year was the first time Voyage Mount Joy held the beerfest, and the event was a success.

"It went incredibly well," Melhorn said. "There were about 1,400 people in total at the event. ... We had overwhelmingly positive feedback from everyone who attended the event saying how fun it was, how great the quality of the breweries were and how well the event was run."

Voyage Mount Joy will once again partner with YAH Brew in Mount Joy to organize the event and find the participating breweries.

While the day promises to be a fun time, it also helps raise money for the community. Last year's beerfest raised about $35,000, Melhorn said, with proceeds split between Voyage Mount Joy and another local community organization.

"Once the event expenses were paid and partner expenses were distributed, Voyage Mount Joy was able to donate $4,000 to the Donegal Athletic Club," he noted. The club's mission is to improve the experience of Donegal student-athletes, marching band members, families and alumni. The organization will be the recipient of beerfest funds again this year.

Established in 2021, Voyage Mount Joy is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting the town through community events and resources. The Fresh Brews of Mount Joy will offer a fun way to support that mission, Melhorn said.

"I would encourage anyone who is looking for a different brewfest experience to check out this one," he remarked. "Not only is it themed, but we have a different variety of breweries that attend our brewfest ... many breweries which people may have not tried before."

Although the event doesn't happen until the spring, Melhorn encourages people to purchase tickets now to ensure admission. Tickets may be purchased at http://www.voyagemountjoy.com. There are separate prices for VIP tickets and for general admission. The event is open to people age 21 and up.
