Spaghetti Dinner to Benefit Fire Company and CHS

Ticket sales are underway for the third annual spaghetti dinner that will be presented by Christiana Historical Society (CHS) and the Christiana Fire Company on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the fire company, 214 S. Bridge St., Christiana.

The all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner, which is a benefit for both groups, will include spaghetti with sauce, homemade meatballs prepared by fire company members, salad, garlic bread, beverages and desserts. Takeout meals will also be offered.

It is recommended that dinners be purchased in advance. There will be separate prices for people age 12 and up and for children ages 4 to 11. Tickets purchased in advance will be discounted. Tickets will also be available the door while supplies last.

Members of the Christiana Historical Society will have an information table set up during the dinner and will offer items for sale as well as information about membership. A slideshow will take place during the meal featuring historic photographs of Christiana.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to win gift baskets. "There will be at least 20 baskets to choose from for (people) of all ages," said historical society member Patti Shrom of Gap. "Vintage Farm Girl Foodie donated a basket. They have bags of vintage mixes for cookies, bread and cakes. She has five different cookie mixes in the basket, plus cooling racks."

Also offered will be gift cards from Dutch-Way Farm Market; the Gap Diner and Cafe; the Brass Eagle; Hidden Valley Self Storage, which has donated a "garage gadgets and gear basket"; and a young artists basket for children. CHS will offer a basket with a historical society mug and snacks.

The winners of the basket giveaway will be announced that evening. People do not have to be present to win.

Girl Scouts from Cadette Troop 4673 will be on hand at the event offering cookies for sale and assisting with the dinner.

The basket drawing will benefit CHS; the fire company will benefit from a 50/50 giveaway. Proceeds from the food sales will be divided equally by the two organizations.

Christiana Fire Company is an all-volunteer fire company that serves Christiana Borough, Atglen Borough and Sadsbury Township. To learn more, visit http://www.christianafire.com.

CHS will use the proceeds for the ongoing restoration of the William Brinton house, located at 17 Green St. One of the programs offered at the location is Saturday on the Porch, which features live music and a sale of beverages and snacks. "Saturday on the Porch will begin in April," noted Shrom. "We already have our musicians lined up."

Shrom encourages community members to attend Saturday on the Porch, as well as the upcoming spaghetti dinner. "It is a community thing. People can get to know their neighbors," she said.
