Library Posts February Activities

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming in February. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

The library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 16.

Gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Programs for children and families will include Reading with Sasha, a KPETS therapy dog, on Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m.; Wiggle & Giggle Story Time, Monday, Feb. 23, at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday, Feb. 28, at 10 a.m. for children ages 6 months through 2 years; Family Story Time with Miss Alyssa, Wednesdays through Feb. 25, at 10:30 a.m.; Family Story Time with Miss Katelyn, Thursdays through Feb. 26, at 10:30 a.m.; and Curious Minds Story Time, led by a member of the Janus School team, Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 10:30 a.m.

Preschool Pals is a new monthly program designed to help children ages 3 to 6 prepare for kindergarten readiness through social emotional learning, literacy, and communication. Each week, there will be a letter and a word of the week; children will practice sounding out the letter and writing it. The group will read a book, do a group activity, and make a craft based on the theme. Families will be given take-home packets to continue practicing. This program will meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, with the upcoming session set for Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m.

Reading the World will be offered on Feb. 12 and 26 at 1:30 p.m. Families can pretend to fly to the country of the week and have their "passports" stamped. There will be a short presentation about the country the group is "visiting," with stories or folklore and a craft based in that country.

Miss Alyssa is having a Snuggle Up Family Story Time on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. Children may wear their pajamas and bring a favorite stuffed animal.

On Fun Fort Friday, set for Feb. 13 from 5 to 6 p.m., families may come to the library while it is closed and build a reading fort among the shelves and tables. Attendees should bring blankets or sheets, a flashlight, and a drink; the library will provide clips to hang sheets for forts and will offer a snack.

Saturday Family Story Time will take place on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m. Families are invited to enjoy stories, songs, and a craft about Valentine's Day.

Teen Chill & Draw with Hanna will be offered on Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. Teens who like to draw or want to learn are invited to the program. Local teen artist Hanna will give some tips, and the library will provide supplies, or teens can bring their own.

English-ish Extravaganza will be held on Feb. 17 at 2:30 p.m. for people age 6 and older. The session will include a mix of storytelling games, creative writing, and word play.

The library will offer Mad Milk Science on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m., where children age 6 and older may mix and match flavors, design a milk label, and taste their custom creation while learning fun facts about milk.

Art Explorers will take place on Feb. 24 at 2:30 p.m. Children age 6 and older are invited to learn about famous global artists and their paintings and create their own masterpieces.

Teen D&D will meet on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. The group is currently closed to new members; those interested in joining in the future may contact Laura Bear at lbear@mslibrary.org.

Activities for adults will include Closely Knit, a program for knitters and crocheters, on Feb. 23 at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; Adult Game Night, Feb. 18 at 5 p.m.; Adult Book Bingo, Feb. 18 at 2 p.m.; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club, for people of all skill levels, on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m., with the topic of "The Mitford Affair" by Marie Benedict.

Taxes in Retirement, a free informative session that highlights up-to-date strategies for protecting retirement income from unnecessary taxation, will be offered on Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. The session is designed for anyone hoping to reduce the stress of retirement planning, discover opportunities to pay less tax and keep more income, get organized financially, and explore approaches for lowering risk in their retirement years.

Easy Writer Club, for writers of all levels, will meet on Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m. No registration is required.

Understanding End-of-Life Doulas will be presented on Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. Certified end-of-life doulas Twila Jantzi and Kristy Yoder will offer an informative and compassionate conversation about how end-of-life doulas support individuals and families.

Faerie Tales & Fellowship will take place on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. Attendees will enjoy warm drinks and honey cakes as they dive into lively conversation. Guests are invited to bring a faerie tale - classic or modern - to discuss.

Community members are welcome to attend the library's board meeting on Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m.
