Historical Society Sets Meeting

The Mount Joy Area Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 16, at the Cemetery Road Schoolhouse, 120 Fairview St., Mount Joy. Guest speakers will be society members Deb Gepfer and Susan Heydt, who will present "Stitching History and Genealogy Together."

Attendees will hear the story of what Gepfer and Heydt found as they researched the family of Ann Francis Breneman Hunter, whose sampler was acquired for the Maytown Historical Society museum. She was born in Maytown in 1844 and made the sampler in 1855.

Before the program, participants will hear from the Rotary Club of Mount Joy about the planned Malmedy Massacre Memorial at Mount Joy War Memorial Park to see how they can get involved. The memorial will serve as a tribute to the fallen soldiers and honor Mount Joy's own Harold Billow, who for years placed 87 American flags in his yard on Veterans Day, Memorial Day and the anniversary of the tragedy, ensuring his fallen comrades would never be forgotten.

Refreshments and tours of the museum will be available following the program. The meeting is free and open to the public, and donations will be accepted.

The historical society's building is open every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Members of the public may stop by to see the displays of Mount Joy memorabilia.
