Columbia Park Rangers Announce Cleanup Projects

The Columbia Park Rangers held the group's annual meeting on Feb. 1, announcing a series of cleanup projects aimed at keeping the town's parks and public spaces beautiful.

Workdays will take place on Tuesday, April 14, at 5:30 p.m. at Columbia Crossing River Trails Center, 41 Walnut St., and Wednesday, April 22, at 8 a.m. at Locust Street Park, 550 Locust St.

The Borough of Columbia will host a spring cleanup on Friday, April 24, at 8 a.m., and participants should meet at Locust Street Park.

Other workdays include Thursday, May 7, at 5 p.m. at Janson Park, 650 Cherry St.; Monday, May 18, at an undecided time at the grass islands at Veterans Memorial Bridge (Route 462); Monday, June 15, at 5:30 p.m. on Locust Street from Front Street to Fifth Street; and Wednesday, June 17, at 8 a.m. at Locust Street Park.

Leaf removal will take place at Locust Street Park, Janson Park, Mount Bethel Cemetery, and Columbia Public Library on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 8 a.m.

The Columbia Park Rangers will also take part in Go Green Columbia! from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on April 24 at the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center. The family‑friendly event will combine the Earth Day and Arbor Day celebrations into one event.

Community members are invited to volunteer for any of the projects. Tools, drinks, and snacks will be provided. Children must remain with a parent, coach, or group leader. Those who prefer to bring their own tools are asked to label them with their name.

In addition, an Adopt-A-Highway cleanup for members only will be held on Thursday, April 16, at 5:45 p.m. Participants should meet under the Veterans Memorial Bridge on Front Street.

Founded in 2001, the Columbia Park Rangers is a volunteer organization committed to maintaining and enhancing Columbia's natural and recreational areas. Beyond their cleanup efforts, the members place U.S. flags throughout downtown Columbia for holidays and special events.
