The Horn Farm Center, 4945 Horn Road, York, has planned several programs. There is a fee, and registration is required at https://hornfarmcenter.org. For more information, call 717-757-6441 or email education@hornfarmcenter.org.

Carpentry Fundamentals: Potting Bench Make-And-Take will be held on Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to read plans; perform measuring, marking, and cutting; and assemble lumber into a sturdy, functional piece of furniture that they will take home at the end of the class. The program will cover safe and accurate use of common household power tools, including drills and drivers, circular saws, and miter saws.

The bench will be constructed with two-by-fours, screws, and wood glue, so no woodworking joinery will be covered. The completed project will measure 60 inches high by 48 inches wide by 20 inches deep and will be designed for easy disassembly to a height of 36 inches for transport.

Backyard Wildlife: Safety and Rehabilitation With Raven Ridge will be held on April 11 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Participants will learn how animals arrive at a rehabilitation center, what happens during their care, and the process that leads to their release back into the wild. The program will also cover the risks of interacting with wildlife, how to recognize when an animal needs help and when it does not, how to connect animals with trained rehabilitators, and ways to support wildlife rehabilitation centers. The program will end with a question-and-answer time.

A Shoots and Leaves foraging walk will be held on Sunday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participants will learn about early spring edible plants, such as dandelions, wild onion, ramps, and nettles. Topics of discussion may include ethical foraging and alternative uses for plants, such as wildcrafting and medicine-making. Beginners and experienced foragers are welcome.

A Micro-Survival Kit Workshop has been planned for April 12 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. In this hands-on class with Kaden of Stetler Survival, participants will build a compact, functional micro-survival kit that fits in a small tin. The program will cover essential survival priorities like fire, water, shelter, navigation, signaling, and basic first aid. Attendees will learn which tools and materials work best at a micro scale and why.
