Spring Concert Introduces New Music Director
The New Holland Band introduces Fred Hughes, their new music director, at their annual spring concert on March 17 in the Good Shepherd Chapel at Lancaster Bible College. Hughes becomes the 12th music director of the Lancaster County institution that is the 2nd oldest community band in the nation - - tracing its lineage to 1829.
For his first concert as music director of The New Holland Band, Hughes has chosen a varied program that includes Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Sousa’s The Colonial Dames Waltzes, Selections from Encanto, marches, and several selections that play tribute to the concert falling on St. Patrick’s Day including Grainger’s Irish Tune from County Derry. The Band’s principal trumpet, Leon Hillard, will be featured on a piece titled Come Back to Sorrento and concertmaster Bob Hoch will be featured on the Weber Concertino for Clarinet and Band.
