175th Anniversary Celebration Set

Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1905 Broad St., East Petersburg, will celebrate its 175th anniversary in the fall. The church was founded in 1847, and the theme of the anniversary celebration is "Great Is Thy Faithfulness."

The kickoff for the celebration will begin on Sunday, Sept. 11. Members of the congregation will share the history and symbolism of the stained-glass windows throughout the church's sanctuary, followed by a potluck luncheon, games, and fellowship. Most of the stained glass windows in the church were installed in 1904, and their stories will be told as a part of church services in September and October.

On Sunday, Oct. 2, Vocal Harmonix, a women's a cappella show chorus, will perform a free concert at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The group rehearses weekly at the church.

On Sunday, Oct. 23, Zion will celebrate the anniversary with a special service, featuring the participation of former pastors and organists. The Rev. Pamela Carnes, interim minister, will officiate at the service. Special music will be provided, including a hymn composed by Jim and Sara Lee Riggs titled "The Jubilee Hymn." To culminate the day, a luncheon for church members and guests will be held at Bent Creek Country Club, 620 Bent Creek Drive, Lititz.
