Two Lower Dauphin students were recently recognized for their contributions to their school community. The students, seventh-grader Jahlil Blackwell and fifth-grader Brady Groth, were honored by Lower Dauphin Communities That Care in their school cafeteria during lunchtime. They were also congratulated by the school administration, police, and monthly business sponsors.

Jahlil was recognized for noticing a juice spill in the middle school lobby and stopping to keep his classmates from walking through the mess. "I would say his actions showed a real maturity, appreciation of their school, and doing the right thing," said Todd Neuhard, assistant to the superintendent, who nominated Jahlil for the award.

Brady was honored for noticing an overflowing trash can on the East Hanover Elementary School playground and taking time away from his recess to pick up the trash and put it back in the can. He was nominated by fifth-grade teacher Amy James. "Brady noticed that there was a mess and took the initiative without being asked to clean up the mess and make our playground a better place for everyone," James said.

For their efforts, they received a gift card; a Do the Right Thing T-shirt, pencil, and certificate; and a restaurant coupon. This month's program sponsors were the VFW Post 9639 Auxiliary and the East Hanover Lions Club.

Any adult over the age of 18 may nominate a child for a Do the Right Thing award. For more information, contact Angela Durantine at angela@ldctc.org.
