The ninth annual commUNITY 5K will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Strasburg Jaycee Park, 218B Miller St., Strasburg. Registration and packet pickup will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and the race will begin at 9 a.m.

Participants will enjoy a course that winds through historic Strasburg neighborhoods, farmland and the local park. The course is stroller friendly with paved roads. There is a small section of mulched pathway to re-enter the park at the end of the race.

Beverages and refreshments will be provided at the end of the race. Door prizes will be given out to registered race participants. Prizes that have been donated by local businesses include gift baskets, gift cards and other fun items. T-shirts will be available while supplies last. CommUNITY 5K is the main fundraiser for the Lampeter-Strasburg (L-S) Homes of Hope program, the transitional housing ministry of Love INC of Lancaster County. Families facing homelessness are supported in the program through the joint efforts of teams of churches in the school district.

While participating in the program, families are committed to meet with volunteer budget coaches and mentors weekly to help achieve goals that they set as they start in the program. The goal of this ministry is for each family to be able to move out of the Homes of Hope house into permanent housing with budgeting and other skilled required to maintain this success. The L-S program has had five families participate in the program to date, with stories of success and transformation.
