Knights Top Dallastown, Blank L. Dauphin
Wrestling at Lower Dauphin over the weekend, the Hempfield Black Knights posted a 33-22 victory over Dallastown and blanked the host school 70-0. The wins improved the Knights' overall record to 9-0 on the year.
The Knights secured three falls to help pull away from the Wildcats. Gio Luciano (113) opened with a 3:27 fall, and Dylan Bard's 5:41 fall at 160 pushed the lead to 21-15. Jorden Williams, however, had the last say, working a 1:32 fall to seal Dallastown's fate.
Kamron Fickes earned a 7-4 decision at 145, defeating Isaiah Feeney while Caleb Mussmon won the heavyweight bout 7-2 and Reagan Lefevre (152) picked up forfeit points.
SWIMMING
In a Section One meet with Cedar Crest, the Hempfield girls improved to 3-2 with a 119-51 victory. The Falcons won the boys' meet, dropping the Knights' record to 2-3 on the year.
Among the winners for the Hempfield boys' team was Ardan McHugh, who won the 200 yard freestyle in 1:59.16. Jordan Root took the 100 free in 53.21 seconds.
Toby Marco was too fast for the competition in the 100 butterfly, posting a winning time of 1:00.33. Jase Colino claimed the 200 individual medley at 2:33.08.
The Hempfield girls won the 400 free relay with Maggie Shaffer, Carol Fabian, Cassandra Christoffel and Anna Koger combining for a winning time of 4:00.13.
Shaffer joined Caroline Schweigert, Ella Root and Emily Musser for the 200-medley relay. The foursome posted a time of 1:57.52.
Several relay participants went on to post victories in individual events. Koger sprinted to victory in the 50 freestyle in 26.76 seconds. She won the 100 free in 59.03.
Shaffer went on to win the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.32 and the 100 fly in 1:02.41.
Christoffel was up to the challenge in the 200 free, winning the event in 2:09.98. The 100 backstroke belonged to Schweigert (1:04.41)
Emily Taylor won the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.08 while Lilliam Farmer outlasted the competition in the 500 freestyle (5:41.94).
BOWLING
The Knights were at Leisure Lanes to face Penn Manor in Section One bowling on Thursday, January 21. The Comets came away with a 7-0 victory. McCaskey topped Hempfield by the same margin four days later back at Leisure.
Xander Green was the Knights' leader against Penn Manor, compiling a score of 625, which included a top score of 238 in his third game.
Manor's Charlie Hull racked up 616 and Derek Warfel a 611.
The loss to the Comets dropped Hempfield's league mark to 2-9. Losing to McCaskey lowered the Knights' overall record to 14-14.
Derick Keller and Mitchell Barnes rolled solid games against the Red Tornado. Barnes began with a 225 and finished with 622 points overall. Keller's best was his second game where he racked up 226 points, finishing on the day with 629 points.
