CV Track Teams Battle Manheim Township
CV track took a trip to Manheim Township on May 3rd and celebrated multiple individual achievements even though the collective triumphs went to Township, 96-54 for the girls, and 98-51 for the boys.
Mae Linder had a standout day for CV, taking first in both the 100m and 200m, anchoring the winning 4x100 relay, and competing in triple jump for the first time ever with a second-place performance.
Linder was joined by Jess Koenig, Grace Lapp, and Ellie Hershey in the relay win, clocking a time of 52 seconds, a personal team best for the season.
Koenig also won the high hurdles, Hershey claimed the high jump, and Lapp took second in the 300 hurdles.
Krystolyn Harris won the javelin and teammate Destiny Ellerbe earned second in both the shot put and the discus.
Maya Longhi pulled in more CV points with a second-place pole vault and a pair of third place efforts in long and triple jump. Gabby Bamungwa took second in the long jump.
"The growth of the team mentally, emotionally, physically has had a significant impact," reflected girls' coach Courtney Thomas. "Each person over time has become more confident."
Only two tenths of a second separated the top three in the boys' 100 meter dash, with CV's Owen Linder placing first with an 11.3, a Township sprinter took second 11.4, and CV's Nicholas Tran took third with 11.5.
Both Linder and Tran ran a leg of the winning 4x100 relay (43.9), joined by Tarius Jackson and Joshua Rennekamp.
Emmanuel Gitonga crossed first in the 800, and Jackson placed first in long jump and second in the triple jump. Loago Snavely took a pair of second place honors in the hurdle events, and Zachary Stoudt was second in the high jump.
TENNIS
Six CV tennis players earned the opportunity to compete in the LL League post-season tournament, with senior Nolan High advancing the furthest into the tournament, reaching the quarterfinals in Flight Two singles held on May 1st.
High, who finished the regular season with a record of 9-6 began his post-season journey with a first round victory over his Cocalico opponent (6-4, 6-4), leading to a clash against Garrett Muraika of Cedar Crest in which High fell 6-3, 6-1.
Joining High in singles play was Yuji Wenger, Luke Taylor, and Grady Ray.
All four athletes also qualified for doubles competition, joined by Henry McQuate Krahnke and Jason Schlegelmilch, and while they experienced early round losses, each duo represented the Bucks with excellent play and sportsmanship.
The squad will say farewell to five seniors, Luke Taylor, Nolan High, Parker McGaulley, Cooper Tardibuono, and Joseph Williams, all of whom contributed to the success and leadership of this season.
"Our seniors will be hard to replace," commented head coach Dale Gregg, crediting the group for their leadership, stability, and skill.
Extending their impact beyond the courts, CV tennis has embarked on a community service project collecting and recycling old tennis balls. Having already double their initial 1k ball goal, the team will pass the torch to the girls' tennis team to continue the effort in the fall.
SOFTBALL
A late game rally from Solanco led to a 18-8 loss to the Mules on May 3rd. CV held a 4-1 advantage after three innings, but the Mules started hitting in the fourth driving home seven runs in the frame.

GIRLS' LACROSSE
Girls' lacrosse picked up three wins in recent days, outscoring their opponents 48-12 in victories over Penn Manor, Central York, and Cedar Crest.
Abby Morley scored 10 of CV's 16 goals in a 16-6 win over Central York on May 1st, but her ninth goal of the night held a little extra weight as it marked her 200th career goal, a milestone made even more impressive in light of only having three full seasons to compete due to the cancellation of the Spring 2020 season.
"She is the player who every other team aims to shut down," noted head coach Matthew Brubaker. "She's on her way to over 100 goals this season."
Amanda Yingling and Sophia Hess each netted a pair of goals in the Central York contest, and one apiece came from Annika Bredeman and Bailey Post-Raeburn.
On May 4th, the club topped Penn Manor 15-2. This time Morley tallied eight, Jessica Chen had two, and Yingling and Jordyn Hironimus each netted one.

BOYS' LACROSSE
Boys' lacrosse continues to battle for a top spot in Section Two and claimed league wins over Cocalico (16-5) and Garden Spot (14-7) bringing their league record to 7-2.

The Bucks celebrated their senior night with a 16-5 win over Cocalico on April 29th, pausing to honor seniors Conrad Dillman, Cooper McCloud, Zach Fisher, Keaghan Sweigart, Nate Heck, Gabe Catalan, and Gavin Winkelspecht.
Head coach Nick DiPiano, who joined the CV lacrosse program four years ago when these seniors were freshman, has had a front row seat to watch the improvement and growth of this special group.
"They have endured some tough situations and have worked hard to be where they are today," praised DiPiano. "The leadership they have shown over the last four years will have a lasting impact on our program."
The celebratory night held goals from J. Fisher (6g, 2a), Tyson Zwaska (3), K. Dillman (2), Silvaggio (2), Z. Fisher, C. Dillman, and Winkelspecht.

On April 30th, the Bucks hosted Elizabethtown with no shortage of runs scored on both sides, falling 21-10, but also taking the time to honor seniors Darren Burkholder, Gavin Fisher, Hayden Hartranft, Logan Kline, and Ethan Weaver.
