Frankford Leads Harriers in Championship Race

Kylynn Frankford paced the CV girls at the L-L League Championship race on October 19th in Ephrata. The senior clocked a 21:37.1 to claim a 28th place finish.

Teammate Seana Dougherty, a sophomore, crossed shortly after, with a time of 22:18.7 for 47th in the pool of 156 harriers. Kylee Antrim was 62nd, Abigail Zook 71st, and Bellemarie Alston 83rd.

Their combined efforts earned the girls team a ninth-place mark out of 19 teams.

"The girls team ran well and could possibly have four girls qualify for Districts," noted head coach Mark Amway. "Kylynn ran a solid race and was just out of the medals."

For the boys, Emmanuel Gitonga led the way, registering a 45th place finish with a time of 18:10.1 and the promise of more to come in the District Championships.

Tyler Slingluff (18:16.5) crossed next for the Bucks in 51st, closely followed by Timothy Gitonga (18:20.1) who earned 53rd place, and Joseph Castronova claimed 91st with a time of 19:15.1.

FOOTBALL

Buckskin football was dealt a rough blow in the form of a 63-0 loss to Manheim Central on October 15th.

Despite the disappointing scoreboard, the evening spent on CV's home field also served to celebrate homecoming festivities and the team will seek a bit of redemption as they anticipate an upcoming league game against Warwick.

FIELD HOCKEY

The Lady Bucks field hockey club ended their regular season on a high note, shutting out Lampeter-Strasburg 4-0 at home on October 13th.

"Ending the season on that win was great because this team is very talented and capable of winning all of their games. It was nice to put four good quarters together to earn that victory," credited head coach Kelly Dearolf.

The crew wraps up an 8-9-1 season with aspirations to head to the District III tournament.

Graduating seven seniors at the end of this year, the squad took time to honor Camille Weaver, Sydney Weaver, Cassie Malles, Olivia Hess, Lillian Buckwalter, Xiomara Ruesta, and Allyson Stauffer.

Buckwalter and Malles served as captains this season and Buckwalter anticipates continuing her field hockey career next year at the Division One level with plans to attend University of Maryland.

VOLLEYBALL

The Lady Bucks closed out their regular season schedule on Wednesday, October 20th, with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Manheim Township after being blanked by an undefeated Hempfield squad two days earlier.

After dropping behind Township in the first two games last Wednesday, the Lady Bucks rallied to take games three and four to force a fifth and final set and clinch the win (15-25, 25-27, 25-20, 25-15, 15-10).

The rally was sparked by 21 kills from Becca Hartranft with Summer Getz distributing a game-high 38 assists, and a pair of aces from Rhiannon Henry.

Shutting down the Township momentum was a formidable Kassie Horning who supplied 13 CV blocks and Emily Kornacki who added 25 digs to the effort.

While hosting Hempfield on the 18th, the Buckskins made things exciting in the second and third games, but came up just short of a win (25-12, 25-23, 25-22).

Hartranft paired 9 kills with 9 digs, while Getz put up 21 assists. Madison Williams defended the net with four blocks. Taking advantage of the serve, Getz, Marianna Dariychuk, Kornacki, and Horning each dished an ace in the loss.

The split results brought the Lady Bucks record to 11-4 (8-4 league).

BOYS' SOCCER
