Track Teams Compete in L-L League Meet

If you are familiar with the high school track and field calendar you know that May brings postseason meets to the forefront. For Conestoga Valley that all starts with a trip to Hempfield for the L-L Championship Meet, held this year on May 13th and 14th. Both sides of the Buckskin contingent finished the two-day affair in 12th place although the boy's team did have to share their honor with Solanco and Elizabethtown as all three teams finished with 19 team points.

Grace Lapp and Emmanuel Gitonga enjoyed silver medal performances with Lapp nabbing her second-place finish in the 300H and Gitonga the 800m. Gitonga also helped the boy's 1600m relay team finish fourth with help from Zach Phy, Carson Miller, and Joey Castronova.

Hallie Schnapf, Isabelle Johnson, Alondra Ortiz, and Mae Linder collected the lone relay medal for the Lady Buckskins, taking fifth in the 4x100. Jess Koenig matched that fifth place with her work in the 100H while Brooke Denlinger ended up in seventh, a few steps off her teammate's pace. Johnson added to her haul with a seventh place run in the 200m while Castronova did the same with an eighth place run in the 400m.

Jazlyn Cintron completed the podium finishers on the girl's side with her eighth-place finish in the high jump.

Nick Tran gave the boy's one final eighth place for his work in the 100m while Ben Eberly (300H) and Jordan Sensenig (high jump) helped the team score with seventh place finishes.

VOLLEYBALL

The calendar for the boys' volleyball season peaks in mid-May with the finish of the regular season and shift to the postseason. Unfortunately for Conestoga Valley there will be no shift to the postseason despite a season ending win over Manheim Township that brought the Buckskins overall record to 8-8. That slotted CV 16th in the final District 3-3A rankings, two spots outside the postseason field.

The Buckskins did manage to pick up some individual hardware, led by Camden Clapper's inclusion on the First Team All-Section One Team. CV also placed three players on the second team with Carson Hoover, Kenji Pha and Kyle Hutchinson earning that honor.

The regular season finale took place on the 11th with CV posting wins of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-23 to enjoy a 3-0 sweep. The all-section team quartet fronted the win with Pha dishing out 24 assists, Hoover collecting 12 kills, Hutchison seven digs and Clapper four aces and two blocks.

SOFTBALL

The softball team also saw their season end with the Lady Buckskins going 1-1 in their final two games to finish with an 8-12 mark.

CV ended things on a high note with a 12-1 win over Cocalico on the 12th. Rhiannon Henry allowed just one hit while racking up 15 strikeouts with just two walks and one unearned run. She also helped her cause with a two-hit, two-RBI day at the plate. Alexa Freeburn matched those two RBIs but did so with just a fourth inning single. Chloe Unruh matched that two-run fourth inning single while adding a bases loaded walk in the seventh to finish with three RBIs. Becca Hartranft matched Unruh's three RBIs but spread her work out over a second inning field's choice, a sixth inning single and a seventh inning sac fly.

One day prior the Lady 'Bucks found themselves on the wrong end of a 9-1 final, falling to Manheim Township. CV posted six hits, but none ended up producing a run, instead it was a third inning Township error that allowed Hartranft to score CV's lone run. Henry covered all seven innings and took the loss, allowing nine hits and seven walks to go with 10 strikeouts.

BASEBALL

The baseball team ended their regular season with the same 1-1 run, only they flipped theirs with a win on the 11th and a loss on the 12th with the result being an 8-12 overall record.

Sam Thompson fell one out short of a full six innings but still picked up the win over Cocalico on the 11th, surrendering just three hits and two runs. He added seven strikeouts and two walks to his time on the mound. Preston Fisher finished things up, adding one hit, one strikeout and two walks to the team tally.

Owen Fisher led a quartet of two-RBI players, picking up his with a sixth inning single. Evan Wilson split his two-RBIs between a fifth inning single and a fourth inning Cocalico error. Abdiel Fernandez and Garrett Daniels rounded out the quartet but neither managed a hit. Instead, Fernandez used a third inning sac fly and a based loaded walk in the fourth while Daniels benefitted from a fourth inning Cocalico error.

Conestoga Valley was unable to end things on an upswing, instead they suffered an 8-1 loss to Red Lion on the 12th to close out their season. Connor Esbenshade took the hit after allowing seven of the Lions eight runs in five and two-thirds innings. Caden Miller and Fernandez covered the remaining outs. Esbenshade was responsible for the lone RBI thanks to his fifth inning single.
