Former Pioneers Stand Out At University Of Delaware

Hanna Garber, a Lampeter-Strasburg High School graduate, put together a successful season for the University of Delaware (UD) softball team, earning All-CAA First Team honors for the second time as well as being named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year. Hanna also earned NFCA All-Northeast Region First Team recognition. The senior led the Blue Hens with a .359 batting average and 23 extra-base hits, including eight home runs, 10 doubles, and a team-high five triples. On the base paths, Hanna stole 16 bases, and she led the CAA with 48 runs scored. She becomes Delaware's first CAA Defensive Player of the Year in her first season at third base after playing the last three seasons in the outfield. She committed zero errors in conference play and just three errors on the season while starting all 45 games and handling 129 chances.

Hanna's younger sister, Julz Garber, had a stellar season as well. Julz earned All-CAA Rookie Team honors as a freshman in 2021 and All-CAA Second Team honors this year. In 15 conference games, she batted at a .353 clip. On the year, Julz played in 41 of UD's 42 games in the outfield and put together a .252 batting average with a home run, two doubles, and 12 RBI. She had a historic game at Lehigh in April where she registered six RBI in a single inning with a two-run double and a grand slam.

A third Lampeter-Strasburg teammate, Chloe Blantz, was a starter at shortstop this season. The three Lampeter-Strasburg graduates helped the Delaware softball team finish the 2022 season with a 29-16 overall record, going 11-4 in conference play and winning the program's first-ever CAA regular-season championship.
