Bands plan outdoor concert

The Lampeter-Strasburg Community Band and Flipside Big Band will present the second event in a series of free summer concerts sponsored by West Lampeter Township and Rotary Club Lancaster South. The two-hour concert will be held on Sunday, July 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Lampeter YMCA Amphitheater, 800 Village Road (Route 741), Lancaster. The bands are directed by Howard Boots.

The Community Band's selections will include the march "Entry of the Gladiators"; "Mars"; "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," featuring a trombone solo by Dale Diller; "St. Thomas"; "A Trumpeter's Prayer," including a trumpet solo by Joe Gagliardi; "It Had Better Be Tonight"; the "Zacatecas" march; "C Jam Blues" featuring Boots on the saxophone; selections from "Grease"; "Carry On Wayward Son"; and "Dance Fever."

During Flipside's potion of the program, Richard and Karen Taraborelli will provide vocals on songs such as "Hallelujah I Love Her So," "Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby," "Polka Dots and Moonbeams," "America the Beautiful," and "The Lady Is a Tramp." Other Flipside selections will include "Don't Be That Way," "Big Mama Cass," and "Big Noise From Winnetka."

Attendees are advised to bring lawn chairs. In the case of rain, the concert will be performed in the Lampeter United Methodist Church, 1101 Village Road, Lancaster.
