State championship team inducted into L-S Hall of Fame
The 2018 Lampeter-Strasburg softball team was inducted into the Lampeter-Strasburg Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 29 for its biggest accomplishment of the 2018 season, claiming the 5A State Championship, the first ever in school history, with a 6-2 win over West Allegheny. The team was ranked sixth out of 33 teams in 5A and finished the season with a 23-5 record.
The team ended the regular season as the Section Three champ for the fourth time in five years with a 16-1 record. In league play, L-S boasted a .463 team batting average and out-hit its opponents 215 to 56. The team finished as the District Three runner-up with two shutouts along the way. Overall, the players scored 300 runs while giving up 70, outhit their opponents 319 to 139 and finished with a .405 team batting average. Five players were named Section Three All-Stars with two players receiving honorable mention recognition. Additionally, four players were named to the PaHSSBCA All-State teams, two on the First Team and two on the Second Team. Head coach Gene Charles was also named Coach of the Year by the PIAA.
