Library sets January activities

The Eastern Lancaster County (ELANCO) Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland, will offer a variety of events and programs to the community. Registration is not required, unless noted. For details, visit http://www.elancolibrary.org or contact 717-354-0525 or adagostino@elancolibrary.org.

The children's library will undergo a remodel including updated paint, furnishings, and carpet and the creation of a new early learning room. The lower level, where the children's library is located, will be closed from Monday, Jan. 8, until late spring. Many children's books and other materials will still be available to check out, and story times and other children's programs will continue as scheduled. Additionally, the library is seeking to raise $57,000 to furnish the renovated children's library. Anyone who would like to contribute may visit https://elancolibrary.org/donate/.

The library offers various activities regularly. In January, these will include Music and Movement, for children birth to age 6 with a parent or caregiver, on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 10:30 a.m.; Readers' Roundtable Book Discussion, featuring "The Island of Sea Woman" by Lisa See, on Jan. 8, at 2 p.m.; Hooks and Needles: Yarn Craft Club, for people of all ages who knit or crochet, on Jan. 8, at 6:30 p.m.; Lego Creation Club on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m.; Buckhill Sleuths' Book Discussion, featuring "How It Happened" by Michael Koryta, on Monday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m.; On the Same Page Teen Book Club, featuring "Yummy: A History of Desserts" by Victoria Elliott, on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 3 p.m.; Preschool Story Time, for children ages 3 to 6, every Tuesday in January at 10:30 a.m.; and Toddler Thursdays, for children birth to age 3, every Thursday in January, at 10:30 a.m. In January, "Winter Animals" will be the topic of Preschool Story Time and Toddler Thursdays; siblings are welcome to join in.

Children of all ages accompanied by a parent or other caregiver may read aloud to Pepper the Labrador retriever during Read with Pepper the Pup! on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m.

The Winter Reading Challenges for children and adults will continue through Saturday, Feb. 24. Reading logs are available at the library. Adults who return their completed log by Feb. 24 will be entered into a drawing to win a new laptop computer.
