A stylish way to support the community

For an afternoon of fun and entertainment for a great cause, make plans to attend the Women's Club of Manheim 2025 Designer Purse Bingo. The event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 1, at Manheim Central High School, 400 E. Adele Ave., Manheim. Doors will open at noon, and the first game will begin at 1 p.m.

"There will be 20 regular bingo games as well as four special games," explained Shayna Sharp, bingo chair. "All of the bingo games are for Coach, Michael Kors and Kate Spade purses. We will also be selling (giveaway) tickets. We usually have 40-plus (giveaways) ranging from event tickets to gift cards to themed baskets."

A variety of food will also be for sale, including R&K subs and pretzel sandwiches, hot dogs, Philly Pretzel Factory pretzels, whoopie pies from Amy's Mixing Bowl, chips and drinks.

Students from Manheim Central High School's Interact Club will help at the event, and proceeds from the bingo will benefit the Women's Club of Manheim.

"Our organization is celebrating our 87th year in service to the Manheim community, and this bingo event remains crucial to our mission as our largest fundraiser of the year," Sharp said. "In 2024, we were fortunate to raise over $14,000 through this fundraiser, which allowed us to award $8,000 in scholarships to senior high school girls, purchase Christmas gifts for 31 local children in need, provide grocery gift cards to families and provide upwards of $15,000 in community grants."

The organization has also given grants to support a variety of groups and events in the community, including the Manheim Library Summer Reading Program, Baron Breakfast, Gretna Music, Chamber of Commerce events, Manheim Athletic Association, Manheim Central Post Prom, Baron Run, Aaron's Acres, Zion Lutheran Preschool and Mt. Hope Nazarene Retirement Community.

The bingo is truly a community event, Sharp said. "This event would not be possible without all of the amazing businesses and community members who sponsor purses and/or donate (giveaway) items," she shared. "We are so appreciative to everyone who is willing to support our event and our organization as a whole. ... Some of the businesses who have sponsored and/or donated so far are Buchmoyer Electric, The Shack Restaurant & Mini Golf, Edge Fiber & Wireless Development and Manheim Auto Auction."

Sharp said the bingo also provides an opportunity to promote the activities of the Women's Club, and she encourages anyone who is interested in joining the group to learn more.

"If you are a woman and are interested in giving back to the Manheim community, then the Women's Club is a great option for you," she commented. "We have a variety of activities to get involved in, but most importantly, everything we do gives back to our community. Our main fundraisers include our mac and cheese stand at the Manheim Farm Show, our homemade Christmas cookie sale, the Holiday Tour of Homes and the Designer Purse Bingo."

She also hopes the bingo will be as successful this year as it's been in the past.

"The event is a fun-filled day where people can spend time with their friends while supporting their community," she remarked. "We have many large friend groups who come each year because of what a great time they have. We have a variety of quality purse options and (giveaway) items to hopefully meet everyone's interest."
