If you've ever wanted to visit the famed German Christmas markets but an international trip is out of your budget, you're in luck. Head to Lancaster Liederkranz instead.

The organization will hold its annual Christkindlmarkt on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Liederkranz, 772 S. Chiques Road, Manheim.

"Our mission is to perpetuate the German culture and traditions in our local community," said Elise Fasnacht, event chair. "Germany has a long history of Christkindlmarkts, and we wanted to provide an opportunity for the community to come together, socialize and enjoy the festive atmosphere."

The festival will include entertainment, shopping, food and beverages.

Christmas carolers will perform in the pavilion throughout the day. The Alpenrose Kindergruppe, a children's dancing group, will entertain at noon. Santa Claus and his German friend, Knecht Ruprecht, will arrive at 1 p.m., and photos with Santa will be available from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. The Alpenrose Schuhplattlers, an adult group of dancers, will perform at 2 p.m., and folk-dance group Alleweil Jung will entertain at 3 p.m.

In the clubhouse, a children's store and craft activity will be held in the rathskeller, while the Liederkranz store will be open in the lobby.

Vendors will be set up throughout the pavilion, selling handmade German items, clothing, jewelry, crafts and more.

"Guests can also try a variety of traditional German food and drinks, such as bratwurst, pierogies and mulled wine," Fasnacht stated. These items will be sold outside in the pavilion.

Inside, the German restaurant will be open in the clubhouse, serving food including pork schnitzel, schweinshaxe and beef rouladen, for a sit-down meal from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with the last seating at 5 p.m.

There is no admission charge for the Christkindlmarkt, but there is a fee for parking on-site. A free shuttle service will transport people from an off-site lot at Farm Credit, 15 Eby Chiques Road, Mount Joy, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The event will be held rain or shine.

Cash only will be accepted for most of Christkindlmarkt, although individual vendors may accept credit cards. An ATM is located in the clubhouse.
