All About Baseball and Halloween

TVBA Plans Field of Screams Event

Youngsters do not have to put away their Halloween costumes after a night of trick-or-treating. Instead, they are invited to take part in Field of Screams, a night of baseball that is being presented by the Twin Valley Baseball Association (TVBA). The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Caernarvon Township's Friendship Park, 3287 North St., Morgantown.

The first-time event is open to baseball players in age 8 and under, 10 and under and 12 and under teams. However, the games are for all players in the area, regardless of where they currently play. "It's basically a Wiffle ball game, and they will play in their costumes," explained TVBA president Jeff Green, noting the game may be modified depending on the number of registrations. "There will be one big game. If we need to break it up into two, one-hour games, we will do that. Everyone will get a chance to play."

"There will be prizes for best costumes and Halloween-themed medals for the winning team," he added.

Food vendors will also be on hand, including the Joanna Store food truck; Rollin Spuds, which will offer loaded french fries; and a vendor selling sweets, including cotton candy, cake pops and candied nuts.

There will also be a TVBA spirit wear table and an equipment exchange. "If anyone has old equipment, they can feel bring to bring it. We are also purging our equipment stock," said Green. "I have a big bin of gloves that are broken in, and it will all be free."

Information will be provided for those who would like to register for the spring baseball and softball season. "We will have a link there to register early with multiple payment options," said Green. "We offer a spring season and a fall season. This is the end-of-year event. (The goal) is to get our name out there."

The TVBA also plans to continue to offer more family-friendly activities. "We will have food trucks (at games) and more community events (in) partnering with the township. We can have sandlot games with a movie afterwards," Green noted. "There may be a homerun derby for adults."

Organizers hope that the upcoming event will get more youths interested in playing baseball or softball this coming season. "We are already gearing up for spring and propelling the TVBA and planning on getting the community involved going forward," Green said, noting that about 200 youths from the Twin Valley School District play softball and baseball with TVBA. "(Field of Screams) is something fun for parents and kids and another use for their Halloween costumes."
