Amvets plans flag retirement ceremony

Amvets Post 136 will host a flag retirement ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at 614 S. State St., Ephrata. The event will be held behind the building, and the public is invited.

The ceremony will begin with prayer, and local resident Peggy Keller will sing the national anthem. The speakers will include post commander Kim Carson and Ephrata Mayor Ralph Mowen. Bob Trout, a Navy veteran, will play taps to commemorate the retired flags. Immediately following the ceremony, a free lunch will be provided for all veterans in attendance.

Community members may bring their old flags to Post 136 in advance or on the day of the ceremony.

Amvets Post No. 136 Home Association is a military and veterans' organization in Ephrata with a mission to promote and strengthen friendship and fellowship among American veterans.
