Anchored Ministries to hold Food Truck Takeover

Everything from burgers and fries to Mexican food, acai bowls and salads will be featured at the Food Truck Takeover being presented by Anchored Ministries. The event, which will also include free games, music and giveaways, will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Twin Valley High School.

The first-time event is designed to provide family fun while educating people about the nonprofit organization that provides assistance to people in need.

"It is a community-focused event," said Megan Johnson, director of development. "We want to raise awareness of what Anchored Ministries is doing in the community and our impact."

The agency's board members recruited the food truck participants by reaching out on social media. "Our board members knew there are food truck groups on Facebook, and we got an application together," Johnson explained. "We wanted to make sure it wasn't all barbecue. We wanted a good mix of trucks with every type of cuisine."

A dozen food trucks are scheduled to participate. In addition to the food items already mentioned, menu choices will include Mexican street snacks and ice cream, barbecue sandwiches, deli foods and sandwiches, salads and wraps, loaded tater tots, organic lemonade, shaved ice, cotton candy, coffee and pastries.

Anchored Ministries will also set up a table, along with other sponsors. Live music will be provided by guitarist and singer Jim Connors and singer Ava Hartman. A DJ will also be on hand to play music and provide facts about Anchored Ministries.

"We will be selling limited edition Anchored Ministries T-shirts," said Johnson. "We are planning on doing a little scavenger hunt for the kids where they can retrieve the fun facts at different stations. We will also have cornhole. The Twin Valley Community Education Foundation will have a game at their table."

Proceeds from donations received during the day will benefit Anchored Ministries. Among the ministry's programs are its mobile clothing closet, which offers new and gently used clothing, shoes and accessories. The closet stops regularly at New Holland Church of the Nazarene, CrossNet Ministries in New Holland and the Honey Brook Food Pantry.

"We help clothe the community and provide essentials to those in need. There are a few projects (that need funding), like maintenance of our trailers," said Johnson. "We like to keep a dignified shopping experience for people. The clothing is high quality."

"We are very selective about what we put into the trailers," she added. "People can (choose items) with dignity and hope. We want to boost their confidence, and we want people to know how God cares for them."

Twin Valley High School is located at 4897 N. Twin Valley Road, Elverson. The event will be held rain or shine.
