Animator To Share With Teens About Careers

Netflix animation supervisor Mike Greenholt will talk with area teens about careers in animation from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, on Zoom. The free event is part of the York County Libraries' and Adams County Library System's "Tails and Tales" SummerQuest program.

Greenholt is a 1994 graduate of New Oxford High School and a 1998 graduate of the Ringling College of Art and Design. He started his animation career as a cleanup inbetweener at Walt Disney Animation Studios and over time advanced to the role of animation supervisor for DisneyToon Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, Disney Television Animation, and Netflix Animation Studios. He's worked as an animator and supervisor in both 2D traditional animation and CG animation on projects such as "Tarzan," "Atlantis" and "Green Eggs and Ham."

Greenholt will talk about his career path and explain some of the jobs available in the animation industry, not only for animators, but also for staff in production, software engineering, technical support, human resources, and operations. He will share clips from some of his work during the presentation. There will be time for questions.

Registration, which is required, is available at http://www.yorklibraries.org/events for York County teens.

According to York County Libraries president Robert F. Lambert, construction plans for Kreutz Creek Library, Kaltreider-Benfer Library, and Martin Library all include space specifically designed for teens. Martin Library's second floor features a recording studio and collaborative creative space.

Greenholt's presentation is one of several programs available to both York and Adams County teens this summer. Activities also include virtual escape rooms, photography contests, and a visit with local author Jared Reck. SummerQuest is an annual summer learning program that features online and outdoor programs for children and teens from birth to 18. Local businesses donate prizes to encourage children to keep reading and to stay active during the summer.

Through the support of the York Water Company, with additional support by WellSpan Health, and The GIANT Company, SummerQuest is provided free of cost to participants in York County.
