Anniversary Worship Service at Old Zion Church

Old Zion German Reformed Church, 187 Reifsnyder Road, Lititz (Brickerville), will host its annual anniversary service on Sunday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. The service provides an opportunity to reflect on Old Zion's rich history and faith traditions.

This year's theme will be "Brickerville 1813," as well as topics of interest to area residents and the German Reformed Church when the current church building was constructed and initially used in the fall of 1813.

The Rev. William LaSalle will portray the Rev. John Theobald Faber Jr., who served as the minister at Old Zion from 1807 to 1819 and at other local churches. Michael Weber will portray Deacon Hollinger, a lay leader at Old Zion.

The worship service will include music and hymns from the period and will feature the choir from Bethany United Church of Christ in Ephrata. For many years, the pastor at Old Zion also served as pastor at Bethany in Ephrata, Jerusalem Church in Penryn and other local churches.

J.P. Welliver, director of music at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Penryn, will play the historical pump organ at Old Zion as part of the service. A freewill offering will be collected during the service.

Refreshments will be served outdoors after the service. Visit http://www.oldzionchurch.org for more information.
