Army War College professor to speak

The Harrisburg Civil War Round Table will meet on Friday, Jan. 19, at the Central Penn College Conference Center, 600 Valley Road, Summerdale. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and a buffet dinner will be served at 6:15 p.m. Anyone who wishes to attend the lecture only should arrive by 7 p.m. The lecture will also be broadcast via Zoom.

United States Army War College professor Douglas G. Douds will analyze the differences between Meade's Army of the Potomac and Lee's Army of Northern Virginia during the Battle of Gettysburg. He will compare the roles played by senior subordinate commanders and staff officers, providing insights on how they impacted the battle's outcome. He recently defended a doctoral dissertation on this topic at Leeds University in England.

Douds is a retired Marine colonel and a licensed battlefield guide at Gettysburg. He serves as director of the advanced strategic arts program and expeditionary warfare in the Army War College's Department of Military Strategy, Planning and Operations.

The lecture is free. There is a fee for the dinner, payable at the door; however, anyone wishing to attend the dinner should make reservations by Monday, Jan. 15, by contacting Brian Foster at hcwrt.membership@gmail.com or 717-962-6122.
