Art museum on F&M campus reopens

The Phillips Museum of Art at Franklin & Marshall College (F&M) has reopened for the spring semester with a new lineup of exhibitions. Members of the public may view the artworks from noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays through Sundays except during spring break, from Friday, March 8, through Monday, March 18. The exhibitions will be on display through Thursday, April 25. The Phillips Museum of Art is located in Steinman College Center, 628 College Ave., Lancaster.

Exhibitions include "Ingrained: Celebrating Pennsylvania's Cultural Heritage," which highlights the distinctive and colorful ways that immigrant populations celebrated their native countries' stylistic heritage. It includes ceramics, metalwork, furniture, painting, and textiles from the 18th- and 19th-century Lancaster region that are part of the Phillips museum's permanent collection.

"Hello Niccoco: The Illustrative Work of Nicole Duquette" features modern-day hex signs and lively garden portals created by a local Lancaster artist.

"Stass Shpanin: Portals" is also on display. An immigrant from Azerbaijan, Shpanin reimagines images and motifs found in early American folk art. Shpanin's spirited imagery, produced in part through artificial intelligence, presents an opportunity for visitors to challenge their current understanding of historical events and to ask new questions.

"Personal Perspective: Landscapes and the Power of Place" features landscapes from the Phillips collection and invites viewers to bring their own interpretation to the works of art. This exhibit is curated by Janie M. Kreines, curator of exhibitions and engagement at the Phillips museum.

"Spectra: Exploring Neurodiverse Art at F&M" was created from the personal expressions of F&M students who identify as neurodivergent. Their unique perspectives are demonstrated through painting, photography, video, and even the artistic arrangement of insect specimens.
