Arts Center Plans Film Showings

The WCR Center for the Arts, 140 N. Fifth St., Reading, will host two screenings of the New York Times Op-Docs documentary "Takeover" on Saturday, Oct. 8. Showings will be available at 2 and 7 p.m.

The 2 p.m. showing will be a free community partner/public screening with a talkback panel moderated by Patty Torres from Make the Road PA. The 7 p.m. showing will be a ticketed event with a panel moderated by Anthony Orozco, Latino communities reporter for WITF, and a reception with the director, the producer, and one of the original members of the Young Lords Party who participated in the events covered in the film.

"Takeover" explores the Young Lords Party's demonstration on July 14, 1970, at Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx. The film combines archival footage, re-enactments, and modern-day interviews to follow the Young Lords' actions calling for improvements in health care.
