Ice Cream Sundae Day slated

Celtic music and dance, face painting, balloon creations and puppet shows will be featured at the Eicher Arts Center's annual Ice Cream Sundae Day on Sunday, June 11. The event will be held rain or shine. Admission is free. Donations to the Eicher Arts Center will be accepted.

Ice cream sundaes and other refreshments will be offered free of charge from 2 to 6 p.m., while supplies last, at the arts center, 409 Cocalico St., in Ephrata Borough's Grater Park.

Joyful Canvas will be on hand from 2 to 4 p.m. to provide imaginative face painting and balloon creations.

At 2:15 p.m. and again at 3:15 p.m., Penn's Woods Puppet Theater will perform "Captain Crook & the Missing Treasure."

The Celtic Martins, which performed at the event last year, will provide the day's music and dance entertainment from 4 to 6 p.m. The family band plays Irish and American fiddle tunes and performs Irish step-dancing.

The Eicher House was constructed as a farmhouse for the Eicher family some 290 years ago, nearly 180 years before the property became part of the borough park.

The Eicher Arts Center Inc., a nonprofit organization, helped save the historic Eicher House from being demolished in the 1980s and helped to transform it into a showcase venue that is rented out for weddings and other private events and also used by the Eicher for a series of entertainment and cultural events for the public.

The annual event in June featuring ice cream sundaes as well as musical entertainment has become an Eicher tradition and often attracts the Eicher's largest audience of the year.
