A car show, food, craft vendors, children's games and live entertainment will be featured during Atglen Community Day on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event, being presented by Penningtonville Presbyterian Church and Atglen Public Library (APL), will take place at Atglen Community Park, 400 Ridge Ave., Atglen.

Event organizers noted that 2022 marks the 10th year for Community Day. "There are a lot of the same activities each year, but there are always a few new things to keep it fresh," said Cristi Hahn, a member of the organizing committee. "This year we will not have the dunk tank. We replaced it with ax throwing. Last year we had a trampoline, and (in prior years) we've had a mechanical bull and rock climbing. This year our big thing will be the ax throw." She noted that the activity will be open to people age 12 and over.

Another highlight of the day will be the car show. Vehicles will be parked along Ridge Avenue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vehicle owners may register on the day of the show or in advance by calling APL at 610-593-6848. Dash plaques and goodie bags will be given to the first 25 paid registrants. People's Choice trophies will be awarded to first- and second-place winners.

Food will be provided by the church trustees. "We will have a chicken barbecue, fresh-cut french fries and baked goods," said Hahn. "The Good Humor ice cream man will also be on hand in uniform (selling ice cream treats)."

Craft vendors will be set up along the perimeter of the park.

There will be entertainment throughout the day, including Matt Holub on acoustic guitar. "This will be his 10th year," noted Hahn.

A live auction will begin at 2 p.m. "(Auction items have) been donated by community businesses," noted committee member Lillian Thompson. "Most of the (participating) crafters will also donate something." Among the live auction items will be a hot air balloon ride for two, an American Girl doll, home decor, gift baskets and gift cards.

There will also be children's games and activities. "For a fee, you get a wristband for unlimited games and the bounce house," Thompson pointed out. Those who donate canned goods for the Octorara Area Food Cupboard (OAFC) will receive a discount.

Critter Connections will bring live animals and reptiles to view from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and members of Steel City Dance and Gymnastics will offer demonstrations throughout the day.

Before the Community Day festivities start, a Family Fun Walk/Run will be held, sponsored by the Atglen Park and Recreation Commission. Same-day registration for the event will begin at 9 a.m., with the start at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of a fee, walkers and runners are asked to bring nonperishable food items for the OAFC. The registration and start location will be the Penningtonville Presbyterian Church parking lot on Main Street.
