Audubon Society posts activities

Quittapahilla Audubon Society will offer several activities to the public. The organization's programs and field trips are suitable for people of all ages and have no required registration or fee. More information and updates are available at http://www.qasaudubon.org.

The organization will offer a Dare 2B Tick Aware program on Wednesday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 723 Lehman St., Lebanon. Using the most current research available, the PA Lyme Resource Network's Dare 2B Tick Aware program seeks to improve the use of prevention strategies, reduce tick bites, and improve early diagnosis. The focus of the upcoming presentation will be ticks, tick habitat, tick removal, and prevention options. Presenter Anne Desjardins launched the Berks County Lyme Support Group in April 2018 and creates "Quick Tick Tips" videos to help members of the public be more aware of ticks and the dangers they pose for people and animals. The Dare 2B Tick Aware program was originally created with a Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) Preventative Health Block Grant via the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Parking is available in the lot behind the church off Spruce Street. Attendees should access the building from the parking lot entrance.

The Red Creek Wildlife Center will give a presentation on raptors on Saturday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army Lebanon Corps, 1031 Guilford St., Lebanon. This program will introduce the audience to a live hawk, an owl, a vulture, and other animals. Ice cream will be served immediately after the presentation.

The year's first field trip will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23. Participants will head to Cornwall Manor's Wildflower Lane to look for migrating and resident birds. Attendees should meet at 8 a.m. at the rear parking lot of the Gateway Apartment Building on the Cornwall Manor Campus; after entering Cornwall Manor, turn right at the first stop sign. For more details, call leader Gerry Boltz at 717-273-2646 or leader Jim Fiorentino at 717-269-0675.
