Author to speak about Lafayette

The Millersville Area Historical Society (MAHS) will host a slideshow presentation titled "Lafayette at Brandywine: The Making of an American Hero" when it meets at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. The gathering will take place in the Millersville Borough administration and police building, 100 Municipal Drive. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and lock at 9:15 a.m.

The speaker will be Bruce E. Mowday, a newspaper reporter and award-winning author who has written more than 25 books on history, sports, business, and true crime. His presentation, related to the book he published about Lafayette in 2021, will focus on how the 19-year-old Frenchman came to America to help win its independence and became an American hero. Copies of several of Mowday's books will be displayed and available for purchase at the meeting, which will close with a question-and-answer period.

Mowday is a member of the American Friends of Lafayette and the coordinator of Chester County's Lafayette Bicentennial Celebration in 2024-25. He has been featured on numerous TV, radio, and podcast programs, including "Counter Culture," the ID channel, C-SPAN, the Pennsylvania Cable Network, and Chronicles of the American Civil War. For his presentations, the Congress of Civil War Round Tables has named him a five-star speaker.

Although admission is free, donations will be accepted. For more details, contact Phil Gerber at 717-872-8837 before noon or at pge8507@aol.com.
