Baking contest winners announced

The Solanco Fair has announced the winners in this year's four annual special baking contests. A total of 128 entrants with 403 entries participated in the Baked Products Section at the Solanco Fair in 2023, and 23 of those entrants participated in the special baking contests on Sept. 20.

The winners included Melinda Greer of New Providence, who was recognized in the Homemade Chocolate Cake Contest. This competition is sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs (PSACF).

The PSACF also sponsors the Blue Ribbon Apple Pie contest. The Solanco Fair's winner for 2023 was Lindsay Kreider of Quarryville.

Pennsylvania's INCREDIBLE Angel Food Cake contest was once again co-sponsored by the Pennsylvania Egg Farmers and the PASCF. Delaney Huber from Quarryville had the winning entry with her cherry pomegranate angel food cake.

Eight-year-old Aubrey Adams of Quarryville won the Cookies, Brownies and Bars Junior Baking contest with her chocolate chip cookies. This contest is sponsored by the PA Preferred program, which is part of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and encourages youths to find locally grown or produced ingredients for their baking.

All four of these certified contest winners are eligible to enter the Pennsylvania Farm Show in January 2024. First-place winners at the Farm Show receive cash prizes.
