Ballet company will perform at Elizabethtown College

Ballet, storytelling, culture and food will all come together when the Philadelphia Ballet Company entertains at Elizabethtown College. The event will take place on the Elizabethtown College campus in Leffler Chapel and Performance Center, 1 Alpha Drive, Elizabethtown, on Saturday, April 6, at 2 p.m.

"This will be a great opportunity for parents to bring their kids, because the ballet company will be performing children's stories," said Jesse Waters, director of community impact at the college. Stories will be told in Spanish as the dancers perform.

Along with the ballet, the event will feature four local organizations that will spotlight their missions, Waters said. E-Dance Center, the Latino Hispanic American Community Center, La Voz Latina Central and the Spanish American Civic Association will all have tables with information, he noted.

Food trucks, including Fuego Latino and Rita's Italian Ice, will be on-site as well.

While there is a cost to purchase food, everything else is free. "We're excited that we have the opportunity to bring this kind of experience to our community for free," Waters said. "It's an opportunity to experience something fun, exciting and educational."

The Philadelphia Ballet Company was founded in 1963 with a mission to bring high-quality dance to the area and to find local talent and develop its members into world-class performers. The company performs mainstage ballets as well as community engagement programs throughout the region, such as the one at Elizabethtown College.

Waters emphasized that the campus event is open to anyone from the community who wants to learn more about ballet or Latino culture. "This is a community event that happens to be taking place on the Elizabethtown campus," he said. "We are hoping that families with children of any age who are interested in dance or cheer or any kind of movement will come out and experience this."

Tickets are not required to attend this event.
