Bennethum, McClune recognized

The Rotary Club of Lancaster South has announced that Alicia Bennethum and Jake McClune, both seniors at Lampeter-Strasburg High School, have been selected as the Students of the Month for February. They were presented to the club by Ben Feeney, principal of Lampeter-Strasburg High School. Students of the Month are selected on the basis of academic excellence as well as school and community service.

Alicia is the daughter of Robert and Jennifer Bennethum of Strasburg. She is president of Student Council, a Link Crew leader, and a member of National Honor Society, High School Heroes, the color guard, Interact Club, and the Pioneer yearbook staff. Previously, she was a part of the concert choir and Pioneer Page Turners, and she was a candidate for West Lampeter Community Fair queen. Alicia has been an honor roll student throughout her high school career, and she was recognized as a Burrowes Scholar and Pioneer Superlative during her junior year. In the community, Alicia competes in baton twirling and dance and is a member of the ACE Mentor Program of America. She plans to attend Penn State University and major in architectural engineering, including studying abroad in Rome. Her goal is to create more environmentally friendly buildings.

Jake is the son of Stephen and Cheryl McClune of Lancaster. He is secretary of the STEM Club, a member of the National Honor Society and the chorus, and a tutor. He was named a Burrowes Scholar of Science for 2023. In his senior year, he served as captain of the cross-country team and participated in the winter track and field program, and he is taking part in the spring program as well. In the community, Jake is active in the Boy Scouts, having achieved the Eagle rank, received the Horseshoe Silver Buckle Award, and held leadership positions. He has participated in various community service projects, and he earned a black belt in taekwondo. Following graduation, Jake hopes to obtain an appointment at the Air Force Academy and study mechanical engineering. He would eventually like to create new aerospace/avionics designs.

The Rotary Club of Lancaster South meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 7:30 a.m. at Meadia Heights Golf Club, 402 Golf Road, Lancaster.
