Berks Libraries promote sustainability

During the first quarter of 2023, public libraries in Berks County will aim to build awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the small changes everyone can make to promote a more sustainable future. Local participants include the Boone Area Library in Birdsboro and the Village Library of Morgantown.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015. The purpose of the agenda and its 17 SDGs is to tackle widespread, global problems and deprivations that can only be changed through purposeful calls to action.

Library visitors can find sustainably-inspired programs and activities at various library locations along with book recommendations and a 30 Days of Sustainability activity notepad. Each notepad contains 30 different sustainable activities for participants to complete in 30 days. Any individual looking to take on the 30 Days of Sustainability challenge is eligible to earn a seed bookmark.

Activities in the challenge include using reusable water bottles, taking shorter showers, donating old clothing and household items and using reusable bags when shopping.

Additional initiatives, along with a full list of the 30 Days of Sustainability challenges, is available at http://www.berkslibraries.org/sustainability-challenge.
