Bird club sets field trips

The Lancaster County Bird Club (LCBC) will offer six field trips in April. These activities are free and open to the public, but registration is required no later than 6 p.m. the day before the trip. On Saturday, April 6, the venue will be Memorial Lake and the surrounding area in Lebanon County. Attendees may meet at 7 a.m. to look for early morning activity of the American woodcock, as well as water birds on the lake and early migrants. A walk for beginning birders and more experienced birders will take place at Riverfront Park in Marietta on Sunday, April 7, with a 4 p.m. start. The activity will last about two hours, and walking will be minimal. Binoculars will be available to borrow. On Saturday, April 13, an outing will take place at Safe Harbor Park at 7 a.m. Attendees will look for early spring migrants like yellow-throated warblers, bald eagles, and peregrine falcons. To learn more, contact Kim Morelock at 717-471-0787 or motherunitof5@aol.com.

On Monday, April 15, the venue will be Shenk's Ferry in Conestoga. A wildflower-centered birding walk will commence at 7 a.m. For more information, contact Nina and Warren Wolf at 717-284-2663 or wolfers@aol.com.

An outing at Safe Harbor and Chestnut Grove Natural Area will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 8 a.m. The focus will be on different habitats, and birds the group will look for include yellow-throated warbler, palm warbler, white-eyed vireo, and fox sparrow. On Saturday, April 27, a group will view the Octoraro Reservoir from several vantage points, including spots on Blue Gill Road and Liberty Lane.
